Friends of the Homestead School Mission

The Mission of the Friends of Homestead School is to strengthen Homestead School’s role as a community resource for access to environmental and humanitarian education through the provision of financial assistance and the funding of projects that support community engagement in environmental and humanitarian efforts.

The Scholarship Fund will offer need-based assistance to families within our community who would not otherwise be able to attend the Homestead School. Currently, limited tuition assistance is available to Homestead families through the Homestead School. Our goal is to open the doors to more families, thereby sustaining and broadening the socio-economic diversity of the Homestead School.

Curriculum Enhancements and Outreach funds the ability of the Homestead School's students and faculty to connect community members and global partners with enriched environmental and humanitarian programs. One such project is beehives on the Homestead campus. The hives funded through Friends of the Homestead, provide educational opportunities for students as well as supporting biodiversity in the Town of Lumberland.

Why Your Support is Important….

Alternatives in education are vital to every community and, for over four decades, Homestead School has offered an exceptional Montessori education for families. Friends of the Homestead School’s goal is to offer the education provided through the Homestead School to more families within our communities through its Scholarship program. The Homestead School plays a key role in the education system within our community in three distinct ways.

The Homestead School offers high level academics, integrating environmental and humanitarian education into its diverse curriculum. Students learn about, then practice caring for the environment and humanity, on both local and global scales. As a result, students attending the Homestead School become imaginative, deep thinkers with compassion and fair-mindedness for the world and their communities. All of these elements are crucial to a sustainable future.

Homestead graduates go into their next learning environment as self-aware, flexible, focused learners with the ability to communicate effectively. These students are known to take academic risks, thinking abstractly and reasoning logically, often seeking solutions to societies problems. Their initiative and enthusiasm bring strong and positive leaders to our communities. Homestead graduates are active contributors to their communities from high school onward, using their ability to collaborate, empathize, and serve.

Additionally, its beautiful campus and alternative education offerings have contributed in drawing many to our area. New families have established businesses, enhanced the local workforce and built strong community connections. By offering financial support for families to attend the Homestead School, Friends of the Homestead School helps to support the growing needs of our community as it continues to diversify.
